Lumus is looking for an exceptional Optical Design Engineer or Applied Physicist to lead challenging optical projects from concept to prototype. The successful candidate will work autonomously, structure open-ended problems, explore multiple technical approaches, and turn innovative ideas into practical optical systems. Responsibilities Take ownership of optical projects through design, simulation, prototyping, and validation. Design advanced imaging and illumination systems in the visible spectrum. Generate and compare optical architectures based on performance, manufacturability, complexity, and risk. Analyze and mitigate aberrations, stray light, ghost images, polarization effects, and efficiency losses. Define optical specifications, tolerances, experiments, and validation methods. Develop computational tools for optical analysis and automation. Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and clearly communicate technical recommendations. Requirements M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, or a related field. Deep understanding of geometrical and physical optics. Proven experience in optical system design, simulation, or development. Exceptional analytical abilities and demonstrated capacity to solve complex problems with limited supervision. Strong first-principles thinking, scientific curiosity, initiative, and technical ownership. Strong programming skills in Python and/or MATLAB.
